Barry H. Leeds, CCSU Distinguished Professor
of English, is the author of three books: The Structured Vision of
Norman Mailer, Ken Kesey, and The Enduring Vision of Norman Mailer,
and of over two hundred articles, reviews, and anthology chapters.
He received his B.A. (1962) and M.A. (1963) from Columbia, and his
Ph.D from Ohio University (1967). Dr. Leeds has taught at CCSU since
January 1968, and prior to that at the City University of New
York, the University of Texas at El Paso, and Ohio
University (Athens). He has lectured at universities and conferences
nation-wide and internationally, and has been interviewed in a variety
of media: television, radio, and newspapers. He was Editor-in-Chief
of the Connecticut Review from 1989 to 1992, and a member of the Editorial
Board from 1986 to 1995. Dr. Leeds has
served as a consultant to various university presses, administrations,
and organizations such as the Association of American Medical Colleges.
He is listed in Who's Who in America and over a dozen other such directories.
Initially a Shakespearean, then a specialist in Seventeenth Century
metaphysical poetry, Leeds has for many years devoted himself to studying
the ongoing work of contemporary American authors who are not conveniently
dead, with their body of work closed. Thus, his writing, like theirs,
is always a work in progress.
