No Ceremony
Tintoretto made a toy house,
Set a boat on make believe water
Put spumes of smoke on a shifting floor
So no one could be sure
When a trapdoor would lift
And heaven pour through.
***
Under a darkened dome
The Sun and moon have a rendezvous.
***
I met you in the piazza, your skin so bright
I thought the sun had burst through
The pala d’oro setting bones on fire.
I heard you say --
How could I belong to you
When all I have is cast afloat on water?
